I’m Katherine O’Shannessy, a strategic designer based in Lutruwita/Tasmania, with a background in government policy, mental health and community wellbeing. I bring research, systems thinking and visual communication together to help people make sense of complex challenges and imagine better ways forward.

About me.

I'm curious about people, the systems that shape our lives, and how things could work differently.

My background in government policy, mental health and community wellbeing has shaped the way I see the world. It's taught me to look beyond the surface, question assumptions and recognise the opportunities for design to make complex challenges more human.

I approach design with curiosity, empathy and an open mind. Through research, systems thinking and collaboration, I explore different perspectives, connect ideas and imagine more thoughtful ways forward.

Portfolio.

Good design doesn't just solve problems. It questions how we define them in the first place.

My work moves between strategic design, community connection and visual storytelling, challenging assumptions, exploring different perspectives and imagining what could be possible.
