Tasmania Design Commons

Tasmania has a diverse and talented design community, yet practitioners often work in isolation, with limited opportunities to connect, collaborate and share knowledge.

This project explored the question:

How might Tasmania cultivate the conditions for a connected design community that can contribute to regenerative futures?

The challenge

Through research, practitioner engagement and systems thinking, I explored the barriers and opportunities shaping Tasmania's design community.

The research included 57 survey responses, practitioner conversations and mapping of the local design ecosystem. These insights informed the development and testing of potential solutions.

The process

Tasmania Design Commons is a proposed digital platform and community initiative designed to make Tasmania's design capability more visible, connected and collaborative.

The concept brings together a practitioner directory, local design stories, peer-learning circles and workshops, creating opportunities for people to discover, connect and exchange knowledge.

The design response

Tasmania Design Commons is a concept prototype connecting practitioner profiles, stories, exchanges and pathways for participation. The website is a first touchpoint for a wider relational system, rather than the whole intervention.
